It's an amazing animation! This and "Opposed Piston Engine with one Crank" are my favourites. I'm not sure but I think that the exhaust ports should be uncovered before the income ports. It looks like Jumo 205D, that was, an aircraft diesel and was very efficient.

If you are still making new animations there is a very interesting motor with opposite pistons called M4+2 that have a four-stroke on one side and a two-stroke on another (its on wikipedia wiki/Two-_and_four-stroke_engines )

Thank you for your nice comment. Yes, exhaust ports should be opened first. I am going to look at M4+2 engine. Thank you for informing me about this engine.

so to cover my understanding.. this engine, wouldnt work as well wihtout a supercharger?

Its just looking at the exhaust port? there is not enough pressing all that burn air/fuel out again apart fromt he new air coming in on the other side?

Like in 4 stroke, its the pistong going up that removes the spent gasses?

Yes, It wouldn't work as efficient as with supercharger.

It wouldn't work at all without a supercharger. This is like a 2 stroke engine, except instead of one piston uncovering the intake and exhaust valves, there are two pistons. In a 2 stroke, the action of the piston moving down pressurizes the crankcase which pushes fuel into the chamber. Since this engine doesn't have crankcase induction, it needs something else to pressurize the fuel and push it into the chamber. Without the blower, exhaust gasses would just blow out both the intake and exhaust.

I agree with you so why we have have 3 Lobe roots pump for supercharging at the top of the engine.

The timing of each piston needs to be Slightly different. The piston on the left needs to go down First in order to remove the Exhaust.

This engine is designed to run on diesel fuel which generates more torque than a gasoline engine and at a lower RPM. The Fairbanks- Morse opposed piston 10 cylinder engine was used in World War II US Balao class submarines. The F-M engines only turned generators to charge batteries and provide power for the 4 electric motors that turned the props. For more info google fairbanks morse and Balao class submarines

i don´t know for sure but it the pressure in the inlet manifold is grater than the leftovers in the exorcist gases, it could be working

A two stroke diesel engine don't works without compressed air because compressed air remove the combustion gasses.

So no fresh diesel is lost like a common two stroke gasoline engine. (But a two stroke Gasoline could be built like this)

So a supercharger and/or a turbocharger or another source of compressed air is needed.
