How Mice go Bad

Vivian was a very nervous little mouse, so when she first came, the other mice rejected her and bullied her quite badly. She was a very sad lonely little mouse - always alone.

Then Liam, the Chinese hamster, came and since he was the only one who did not beat up on her, she attached herself to him. She followed him everywhere, slept with him and even washed him. He tolerated this all good naturedly although the relationship was a bit one sided. Eventually all this clinginess did get to him and he soundly rebuffed her - a very difficuilt time for Vivian. Liam and Djungarian hamster, Bertie, became very bonded and Vivian's one friendship was no more.

Vivian became a very violent little mouse - the terror of the mousery. She harrassed the older mice and terrorised the babies. Too many mice where getting slashed - something had to be done.

The little psychopaths need to be separated from the rest of the mice and so Vivian was arrested and put in with Jeffrey, the rabbit. Time, maturity and loneliness usually solves the issue within a few weeks, although a mouse sometimes has to spend months in isolation. With Vivian it only took a few weeks.

The surprising thing is that the rest of the colony holds no grudges and welcomes the little convict back with great warmth, something they do not do with mice they have never met. Their memories are long and even if a mouse has been away for a month or two they will always remember her.

Vivian became a fully integrated member of the colony and was a very happy, if somewhat hyperactive, mouse for the rest of her life.
