This video demonstrate, how you can use Firebug with Selenium IDE to record testcases for your Web application. This technique can be used with JavaScript frameworks like ExtJS and JQuery where basic recording doesn't work.

In this demonstration, I have used X-path as a way to locate html elements on the web page. There are other ways too by which you can achieve the same result.

You need to have both Firebug and Selenium IDE addon configured for your firfox.

  • thx the vid helped me getting into it! but nobody will be able to read the text in that short time ;-) so better stretch the clip about one minute so everbody will be able to read without pressing 5times the pause button..

  • I dont really get what you can do with this tool, someone care to explain?

  • @ritesh384, you need better title. Using Firebug with IDE is a little more advanced than automatic test recording usage, the real 2 minute tutorial use case.

@thedeadbaby, you obviously didn't bother to learn how to use it. You need explicit wait command before the actions that times out.

  • Well, I've noticed that recorded tests may not playback correctly (pass test), so you still have to manually verify recorded script works and/or debug & fix up recorded script before it be "finally" saved or exported.

  • selenium ide is a piece of shit. None of the exported tests work and I ALWAYS get timeout errors. time to throw this open shit software out the window.

  • you didn't show the most important thing.... how to save them.
