Super Nintendo D-pad on a PSP 1000

If you are like me, you absolutely HATE the stock d-pad on PSP 1000. It is virtually impossible to play fighting games like Street Fighter on it properly. So to solve this problem I installed a d-pad from a Super Nintendo controller.

thanks for the motivation. i was so bent on not doing this to my psp. i used my original 1000 d-pad. yeah the one you didn't like. i think you missed out on a hidden gem.it only took 3 steps and i didn't have to cut anything on the psp. its amazing how it worked. it plays just like a ps2 controller.. slightly stiff and ridiculously responsive. it would make your mouth drop. all combos are executed with perfection. its better than a saturn controller.

@knapper212 What did you do to yours? Those stick on d-pads? Cause that are better but not as good as this mod.

What do you mean, it's impossible to press diagonals ? Put your thumb on the dpad in a way so that your thumb covers the whole dpad, it's so easy pressing diagonals.

@Quartrez I guess you have never used a PSP-1000, while you can press a diagonal, try doing it playing a fighting game like Street Fighter Alpha 3.

@Quartrez But what version of the PSP do you have? A PSP-1000? Look inside the battery compartment. PSP-1000 and 1001 were horrible, they got better with each version.

@tigheklory get the plastic from a pringles top. i used the bottom of a small plastic ice cream cup.

@tigheklory i just crazy glued a piece of flexible plastic that i cut and fit to the d- pad's size to the back of the d-pad. i disagree. don't knock it til u try it. it plays like a playstation controller. playstation is the best controller for all games. pasted with flying colors on alpha 3. even on hard core games like mame marvel vs. series and king of fighters. i never had so much control.

I also have a psp 1000 and playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is a chore when trying to execute combos.

@tigheklory I have a PSP, and while I'll amdit it's much easier to handle with a SNES dpad, the PSP dpad isn't that bad.
