Born in Venezuela, multilingual and passionately engaged in international politics, Edgar Ramirez was the perfect choice to play Illich Ramirez Sanchez - aka 'Carlos the Jackal' - who was born in Venezuela, multilingual and passionately engaged in blowing stuff up. They even share a name. Having popped up in The Bourne Ultimatum and Che, Ramirez knows his way around the shadier corners of international diplomacy and black ops - and it shows. He's terrific in a movie that he was at pains to explain, is definitely NOT a biopic. The up-and-coming actor explained his feelings about the terrorist/revolutionary, and what it was like to put on enough pounds for the role to have Jake LaMotta rushing for the celery sticks. @KShneider I know what you mean, but what I meant is yours is a generalization not always true. Most Venezuelans speak very little or no English at all. I'm sure we can agree that well educated upper and upper-middle-class Venezuelans are very scarce these days...
