HIV (part 2)

So many of us need to be honest about HIV. We need to own it. if you have HIV get treatment for it, see your doctor, dont end up dead because someone lied to you about the facts. Black men being on the DL aint cool at all. BE HONEST and stop shuckin and jivin. BE REAL. Black community and black curches lets stop all the hate and bad energy around HIV and AIDS and start talking about prevention.

I've heard that black women are the fastest growing group of new HIV infections. And I've heard the DL being blamed for this... or maybe I have put the two stories together for myself. Do you think this is accurate and/or a fair explanation?

No where or at any time have I ever said, implied, hinted at or even suggested that "every body became gay" so I dont know why you would say this J? What about these two videos would even make you ask me this? Have I ever asked you to go be homeless?

I don't know how much of a problem this is, do you think this is unfair scape-goating, or do you think it is a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed?

If you can believe the polls and numbers, the Prop-8 vote sure does suggest that the black community has a real problem with gays. My take on this is that this leads to the DL and perhaps many men living in denial, not taking precautions to prevent getting HIV because that would be admitting who they are, and then they most certainly don't get tested because that would be acceptance of who they are.

Kengi -- I dig the hat LOL! I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about how homophobia/gay-denial/"downlow­" in the black community affects the spread of HIV. I'm an outsider and not judging, but I want to be better educated about what the *real* situation is, and what the *real* obstacles are to improving the situation (in terms of both prevention, and acceptance of HIV).
