If you have good speakers, you should be able to hear the tapping/bolts in a tin can noise. It's not loud, but noticable while driving. The tapping sounds like a valve spring, but the "Bolts in a tin-can" sound is what I having a problem guessing upon. Kinda sounds like there's A LOT of vibration.

  • dude, hear me out..u have your distributor cap turned too far,,try turning it back counter clock wise i think it is.....i did it with my ka24e and turned it too much and that sound came up....then turned it back and it stoped..hopefuly that helps

  • @MrBluenob Yeah, it's called ping. I got it fixed when I rebuilt my engine for the turbo.

  • Could be your timing chain rubbing up against the inside of the valve cover! Get that checked out!

  • @240sxGuy3 It was actually my o2 sensor. It was loose and I'm pretty sure it was tightened down while I was trying to figure out where the sound was coming from.

  • @XBOOBdood Oh ok, so your car is not making any foreign engine noises anymore??? Ok then disregard my last comment back, but if you hear a similar noise to that again, its probobly going to be your timing chain or lifters!!

  • @240sxGuy3 Or a timing guide in one of the rockers.. (I have that noise every now and then.)

  • Sounds great bro! I got a de I'm just about done with. Been two years in the making but its gonna be nasty!

  • i have a 97 hardbody truck with a ka24e,had the same noise @3k rpm and i was told it was "the timeing chain hitting the guide due to centrifical force from the chain" from the dealership which made sense but i had to replace the chain guide cuz it fell into my oil pan and got messed up... i have no idea why ,but yeah after that got replaced it went away...soooo check your guide and tensioner guide.=]
