I see good points pro and con in their rebuilding. Economically it would be good. Work for the region and tourism too. Not building would be cool too. The empty niches are indeed a poignant reminder as the lady had said. Also, the earliest art works in Buddhism weren't even OF him at all. Just things that were evocative of him. Carvings of bare feet, a parasol, AN EMPTY THRONE. So, why not an empty niche. I'm just sayin'.
