An unknown photographer shot a homemade film in 1927 in Martinez, CA. If you have any information on the people or places, the Contra Costa County Historical Society would like to hear from you.

  • YAY, MARTINEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My mom met my dad (Marshall Waters from San Francisco) while working at the refinery - at Shell Chemical; they married in 1935, and mom had to "retire" (nepotism rules). they lived for a short while in one of the brown shingles on the hill. I'm not sure, but as I recall they were duplexes.

  • I believe the "office building" in the early part of the vidis part of the refinery property as I think that brown-shingle in the background was part of the employee housing up on Marina Visa, and yes, the refinery images are from Shell. In the Alhambra HS section, my mother and her best friend were probably in there, but the video is not exactly stellar. Mom's best friend Helen Dwyer graduated in 28, Mom (Winifred Bickel) graduated in 29.
