Late winter and night in a desertical Piazza Duomo, a typical lorry cleaning up the square. Never seen Piazza Duomo so empty, so I took advantage for a short movie. A concert panel spoils the view of the west side, that is my favorite after the Duomo cathedral itself and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II entrance. I was still out and about on holiday looking for my favorite brand of cigars that I had forgotten to buy earlier that day. The lit Duomo facade short after years of cleaning and polishing and most of all the Galleria entrance were looking majestic in such a void athmosphere, reminding me some of my most expensive schooldays (ages ago) in a private school closed down and moved away from there long time ago, that back then was overlooking the inside of the Galleria.
Shameful: then and there I was not even sure anymore that the famous knight statue depicts Vittorio Emanuele II king of Savoia reign, owning North Italia and Sardegna in the 19th century until Italia unification around 1860 (with Garibaldi taking care of the South of Italia-Regno delle due Sicilie- and the Savoia coming down from northern Regno d'Italia to shake hands and seal the Italia union on Volturno river late that year), a landmark of the city. And I was lazy to verify by getting closer to it...

  • @tweattweat :-) I am kinda flattered now... . But let me say, admit and warn you: yes it's nice and there's a lot to see before you can tell about Italy, but much nicer seen it by an outsider (with all movies and stuff) or expat outlook... . When you get used to it, it becomes normal. In fact after a few months back here I wouldn't feel to shoot this clip no more. When you have something readily available you don't see it no more...but you are gonna miss it when not there, oh yes that you are...

  • I loved this video and your narration. :) I am planning on visiting Italy to see my best friend and her husband who live in the Milan area. I'm learning to speak Italian, and try to read Italian as well. I'm also trying to learn as much as I can about the history and area. It's a beautiful country you live in. I would be taking photographs daily, what a charming place to live!

  • Expensive, bit more than Napoli maybe food and leisure, maybe properties in town, but not so different than most North Italia, just little cheaper than UK (or than London) but unfortunately not even that so much no more... . Food and transport are cheaper than in UK, but taxis cars and others might cost more. Just go for it and don't be afraid. In MIlano and most of the North, unlike in Napoli and without implying anything racist, most criminality come from poor unemployed or illegal immigrants

  • Sorry mate, a bit of misunderstanding there about who thinks the other is Italian or not...btw you are but don't sound it, so I am still confused, "io guardo", taken from "I look" to mean "io sembro", it's a good start to look the same but it's more about whether how you feel sound and act (unless you look...chinese I mean, but even then...). I wouldn't worry so much though...Milano and most places are ok, yes Napoli is more dangerous some areas and people are more "to your face",in good and bad

....... Is it very expensive to live in or around Milano?

  • Thanks to you! You could write in Italian... Dangerous? Not really...it depends on your background, there are far more dangerous places, in Italia too. I don't think it is, not for a man. But grown up there I feel it as my space, would risk it anyway. However, it's not like in UK with drunk people, it's all about gipsy or people who might go for your purse. But there's a lot of police. More dangerous is Stazione Centrale for travellers or anywhere if you look weak or as a lost soul or foreigner.

  • Thank you for this footage of the Piazza Duomo. It was nice to see because it was not busy with a lot of people. It looked very peaceful. Is it dangerous to walk around the city at night?
