Team Honkers robot racer autonomously driving a course using hardware-accelerated computer vision. The robot is running completely autonomously; there is no human driver or external processing on another computer.

Technical details: the robot does real-time, on board image processing, image segmentation, feature extraction, and control on a custom Helios board built at BYU. The board's main component is a Xilinx Virtex 4 FPGA with an embedded PowerPC processor, running at 100 MHz. It processes 320x240 RGB565 video at 30 to 35 fps.

Brigham Young University electrical and computer engineering senior project, April 2008.
