Bela Lugosi is Pimp.

Actually no one owned the rights to Dracula in the States, because Bram Stoker himself tried to copyright it by have it published sequentially in American newspapers, and for some reason that was insufficient.
Universal THOUGHT they owned the rights because they paid Florence Stoker something like $10,000.00, talked down from her original asking price by Bela Lugosi, before he had even secured the film role.
The book Hollywood Gothic traces all this.

I am 102 yrs old (thank god I know how to use a computer at this age) I remember when this movie first came out. Its super freakin awesome dude.

Saw this movie once on T.V. in the sixties. There is something about the horror classics from the 30's and 40's that make them superior. Great acting. No overdone computer graphics. Love the black and white.

This is a good movie. Columbia Pictures originally wanted it to be a direct sequel to DRACULA, but Universal owned the rights and wouldn't allow it, so the vampire's name was changed to Armand Tesla. However, it's Lugosi, so the Dracula identity is undeniable.

Columbia Pictures werewolf could not copy Universal's Chaney werewolf make-up.
The actor Matt Willis was originally a Broadway theatrical performer.
