I grew up absolutely LOVING girls basketball! My own school's team was sreadful (the boys were great though) BUT, I followed girls basketball statewide more than any other high school sport. I went to the state tourney several times despite the fact my high school was never in it. The 6 on 6 game was electric-Constant movement-intense competition. The move to 5 on 5 always baffled and saddened me. Here we had WOMEN playing a game that got more attention than just about anything, but...

I grew up with six on six girls basketball. The game was pure perfection. Most of these little towns don't have schools anymore. Lost treasures in the march of "progress".

Why would that lady sue to play 5 on 5. Thats like a girls softball player suing because they don't throw the ball over-hand. What a selfish moron. Hopefully she got cut from her team for startin b.s.

Back in 6-on-6's heyday, people didn't have as many things to do with their spare time. Personal computers were in their infancy, there was no internet, not as many cable TV networks, no VHS or DVD, and kids didn't have the attention span of gnats like they do now.
nice to see something that reminds Iowans of the excitement of split court basketball and what the girls tournament was like at Veterans Auditorium in DesMoines in the 60's. One time Harmony HS in Farmington went and took a tour bus from our town of 900. I remember teams like Montezuma, Mediapolis, Winfield-Mt.Union, that dominated many years. The Iowa style was changed so girls could play basketball in college which was a good thing but it is missed.

Remember when Des Moines didn't have girls basketball? The tournament was like a celebration of small town Iowa. The media would always claim that these little towns would all but shut down and head to Des Moines to watch their team. Des Moines families could move to the suburbs, such as Urbandale, in order for their daughters to play.
