I read somewhere that one of the first Fire Chief was really into boating and gave the rigs the red/green lighting scheme and it has stuck ever since. Many suburban Chicago departments also use the green.
Green/ red is a traditional Chicago Fire color. Been that way as long as I can remember it. Our department has black firegear, lightweight and comfortable except for those hot summer days. Great for winter though.
Does anybody know where I can find a complete and up to date listing of the CFD's entire apparatus roster, if such a thing exists?
