After receiving a message and remembering how I failed to deliver the last video, I decided to make this short video and a package to install these themes AND screen savers on your Windows XP and Vista machines.

This is actually quite interesting because almost every file needed to be modified in order for all of this to work properly. All of the screen savers will show their correct name in Display Properties instead of "Wildlife 32." All of the theme files are created in a nice clean directory structure on your computer, and all the fonts are installed to the system fonts folder, so they can be used in other applications if you so desire. I'd consider it quite amazing that everything functions EXACTLY as it would on Windows 98. If you noticed that the My Documents icon in the video didn't change when I applied themes, it's because the My Documents folder just never had theme icons, even under Windows 98. If I get any requests, I guess I could post a video of the themes on Windows 98.

Please don't distribute the installer or claim you made it. Just point people to this video and have them download it from here. Thanks!

  • This looks really cool! But 2 questions!

    1. If I do this, will it effect ALL the computers on my network?

    2. Will I be able to change back to my original theme (Windows XP)?

  • @steak98 It won't affect other computers in any way unless you run the installer on them. You can always revert to the default Windows XP theme.

  • Thanks! Quick question: does this use up a lot of hard disk space?

  • @WonderN123 Nope. It takes up about 17 MB; not much by today's standards.

  • It's people like you that make YouTube awesome. Thanks a lot! Love having these classic themes!

BTW, I'm upgrading to Windows 7 in the near future, any idea if it works with it?

  • @tko741 Thanks for the kind words!

I haven't personally tested it on Windows 7, but others have reported it works. If it doesn't, I might be able to release an improved installer that would fix the problems.
