Cosmic Graveyard are true rock legends, having had huge success in Japan and the US in the late 70s and early 80s with such classic albums as "Concrete Bathroom" and "Cosmic Graveyard In Rock". They have been named as a massive influence by bands such as Iron Maiden, Intruder, The Oliver Reeds, Motorhead and The Flying Pickets to name but a few. They eventually split in 86 due to drug and alcohol issues, as well as a number of well documented personal problems and "artistic differences," eventually resulting in lead singer Leonard Valve serving time in a US correctional facility on fire arms charges. Leonard went on to have his own successful solo career with the critically acclaimed 1990 album "For Fuck Sake, Help Me". For many years rumours of a Cosmic Graveyard reunion circulated in the rock press. Now they're back - clean and ready to take the world of Rock by storm again, with their brand new album "Uncle Bill's Liver". This video is for the first single from that album. "The Atoms Of My Red Plastic Record Player" was shot on a mysterious foggy night at a derelict factory in the heart of Sheffield's red light district - the haze in the air is real fog in the building, not from a smoke machine! Mr Valve's notorious "artistic temperament" , seemed to get progressively worse throughout the evening, accompanied by the smell of strong liquor leading to him completely losing both the power of speech and his bladder, not to mention the ability to not steer his mobility scooter into lighting rigs, cameras or people, he eventually collapsed and had to be removed by ambulance (with great effort). With Mr Valve back in rehab for a lengthy spell, we were left with the unenviable task of sifting through the footage of the evening's carnage for anything remotely usable.
UPDATE: We have since been informed that Mr Valve has now been fired from Cosmic Graveyard. He has also suffered what was his 53rd stroke. As this was almost certainly Leonard Valve's last ever performance with Cosmic Graveyard, Light Engine Films decided to publish this video on line purely because of its historical significance.
I've always loved this song. Right back from the Zontar days. Awesome voice, Mr Zontar!
