  • 1. The sling should cover the hand and wrist to prevent movement there.

    2. The sling should NOT be knotted right behind the victim's neck. It's uncomfortable and also dangerous since the weight of the arm and any tension the sling takes in will be transferred to the knot which would then be pulling against the spinal column. Rather, you should tie the know to the side of the neck.

    3. When making an anatomical splint, you shouldn't tie the knot on the injured arm.
