1969 album The Age of Aquarius
Composed By Galt MacDermot/James Rado/Gerome Ragni
Taken from the then-hugely successful rock musical Hair, this song was the 5th Dimension's biggest and most lasting record. The musical was already becoming a cultural phenomenon when the group saw it in 1968. Enraptured by the music, the band took the idea to producer Bones Howe, who constructed this mini-suite. The first section is a slick blend of soul and rock and is buttressed by lyrics with astrological references -- perfect for the time. The second section is a gospel meltdown, led by Billy Davis Jr.'s spontaneous in-the-studio vocal performance, which took the entire song over the goal line. It certain ways it may seem dated today, but the overall message of unity is, in the end, timeless.

@stations44 How great are there faith. And can you rain it down. For man cannot save you. Only what made you. Trust not in man, but the truth. Are we apart of something great. For it is not there church of lie's. But the begining of all. Glory of what made you. For then you may see clear as the water's . For what your eye's, may see, many will not. For they was blind by the sun. Be not of a church, and there sun. But the water of truth. for you may comprehen it. For what is man.
