Meditation on Soham Mantra - Yoga Meditation

OK, I have read all the comments and i know the video says to listen and not repeat the mantra out loud but aren't mantras supposed to be spoken like the "om monay padray hum" mantra (I know I spelled it wrong).

If not then what did they do 500 years ago before there were recordings; have someone stand there and say it for them?

Mantra is best remembered silently, internally. This is a very straightforward comment, and has be so for not merely 500 years, but thousands of years. When you hear an advertising tune or a popular song you like, isn't it true that before long it is going on inside without moving your mouth and vocal cords? It just goes on in your mind without singing it aloud. Similar principle with mantra. You'll have to practice this for yourself, unless your question is just intended to be argumentative.

SO should be on the inhalation but in this video it is done as an exhalation. HUM is also an exhalation. I don't believe this is correct.

Your comment is inaccurate. In this video So is clearly aligned with inhalation, not with exhalation. Hum is aligned with exhalation.

First let me thank you sincerely for uploading this wonderful video and sharing the method of meditation and thus knowledge of achieving self realisation that was practised by Hindu yogi's thousands of years ago.I have been using this video for last few months for meditating and find it very useful as it is simple and straightforward.Also feels sad when people make such inferior comments on who is right and wrong and the comparisons."GITA" says one can take own path to achieve NIRVAANA. You are wrong. This was not copied from the group you mention. It is a teaching of the tradition of the Himalayan masters, through Swami Rama. The "Art of Living" course is a commercial enterprise not based on the teachings of the masters. It is they who have copied.

I used to meditate with SO HAM years ago and now i noticed that i did it wrong. I was spelling "HAM" abruptly and not with this warm and resonant "MMMMMMMM" i figured that's why i never accomplished what i was seeking with this meditation.. i'm going to try again.
