I've had many parrots and smart birds in my day but Bob beats them all!:)
This is a wild scrub jay who flies into my apartment looking for peanuts every morning. He is welcome to go in and out as he pleases.
During the 19th century there arose the belief that these were the "most advanced" birds, based upon the belief that Darwinian evolution brings "progress." In such a classification the "most intelligent" of birds were listed last reflecting their position "atop the pyramid." Modern biologists reject the concept of hierarchical "progress" in evolution (the essays of Stephen Jay Gould are particularly good in showing this), so more recent taxonomies place corvids somewhere in the middle of the passerines. They are the largest "songbirds" on earth.

A few years ago, my neighbors raised an orphaned scrub jay chick. They named him Squakums :P He was soo cool! He would land on people's shoulders and eat food from their hands. I haven't seen him in years. I miss the silly bird :-(
