I CAN NOT believe the comments here: you guys (and girls) are going about Rushkoff being "a" jew and not about his arguments.

wtf... you - mostly americans :P - are out of your mind!

it's not about programming in itself. it's about knowing what the heck is going on and how things work and not to be manipulated by others. it's about learning as much as possible till you die.

This is a very good video. I studied literature when I was at school . I was always afraid of Math,Physics ..., then I made many decisions, I started over and studied a lot from the beginning , how things work. I relearned so many things Math Physics, computer science . now I can program in many languages. It's never too late. believe me it's important to know how things work and make things yourself . it's not just about programming also in many fields in life. english is my 4th lang

    An either/or fallacy.

I love Douglas Rushkoff's work; but I feel I must be a troll for history's sake. At the start of his talk all he says is true, he does swap between talking about Walter Lippman (political commentater) & Edward Bernays (PR person). This is easy mistake as Lippman coined the term 'Manufacturing Consent' (1922) whilst Bernays wrote 'Engineering of Consent' (1947). Though, their positions are the same (the latter referencing the former); to the point were democracy was reduced to consumer purchases.

that's actually the term many Americans used to call foreigners in third world country. I think he is just using it to poke fun at that.

It's a logical fallacy called an Ad Hominim. That's where a person attacks the person because they have no argument against the message.

I see no problem with the few things he says in that clip. I have a serious problem with religion, but I can swallow him calling himself a jew because he doesn't talk bullshit.

After I watch this clip, how come there are dozen programmers who knows programing are dumb? Even though there are programmers dumber than people that does not know the programming.

I don't see how your comment has anything to do with the arguments he is providing in this video.
