  • Well, All Franken, it DID go on after 1964, even WITH legislation. You really think that racism can be cured by law??? These people are just moronic... If law can cure, we would have no drug addicts, no traffic violators, no murderers, etc...

  • Lyndon Johnson was one of the worst things to happen to this country.

  • In the constitution there is a tension between liberty and equality though these two concepts both stem from Classical Liberal traditions. If members of society are to be considered equal, there must be certain restrictions placed on individual liberty. Goldwater and other conservatives like to emphasize personal liberty while ignoring the fact that "all men are created equal". It is easy for them to pursue liberty at the expense of equality because they do not have to deal with discrimination.

  • @100abovetheinfluence The Civil Rights Bill was okay for desegregating public facilities (government facilities), but it shouldn't have forced private facilities to stop segregation

  • Goldwater read the constitution and understood that, while the federal government could and SHOULD outlaw discrimination in government facilities, it has no legitimate power to do so in private facilities. (the use of the term "public facilities" is often incorrectly used by politicians, including Goldwater, when they should be using the term "private facilities" "Public facilities are GOVERNMENT facilities)

  • The party of Lincoln changed to the party of Reagan. The party of Reagan changed to God knows what.

  • Why do you say that LBJ is one of the worst things that happened? No, poorly thought out desegregation practices were the problem, government programs espoused by both Democrats/Reps to so call help the black community did as much damage as it did kind of help.

  • Boyd made a point-You can't leave things up to Mississippi. That is like letting fox watch over a hen house.

  • Do you think we shouldn't have passed the Civil Rights Bill based on your reasoning? It was more about discrimination than just plain racism. People who pay taxes to provide public goods and services shouldn't be denied access.

  • @12345678tube Not sure if the FBI put that out there or was it something that has come out recently...BUT...let's use a little common sense..If MLK was beating up white hookers in the 60s he would have been put in jail for damn near life....thereofore that "story" is bullshit...Now I really don't care about communism so whether he was active with them or not is irrelevant..His "plagerism has been documented by a professor that didn't make the claim until years later...

  • @freein2339

    1) The FBI disagrees with you. He DID beat white hookers, mercilessly, with money that was supposed to go to the movement.

    2) You ignored the other stuff, like how he plagerized everything from his college papers, to his thesis, to his speeches.

    3) He was also heavily involved with communists, much like the unions, who were also socialist/communist

  • @12345678tube King did not beat white hookers not did he engaged in sex with white hookers...Mayybe you should do more honest research before parroting the same right wing lies such the lie that MLK was a republican...King was not a fraud , he and others during that time transformed the country ...ironically the Civil Rights Movement was not as "dangerous" as MLK's involvment in rights for workers.......white workers included....that in some respect is what got him killed....
