See why is it when someone is different, the other closed minded person just doesn't understand and thinks the artist(s) is going out of his or her way to be weird or different all on purpose to be "cool". Marilyn Manson is fucking awesome because he loves to be himself and he just laughs at the people that think it's all for show, some of it is sure, but mostly it's because music brings out the real you, then you can't help it to become your inner free self. Why can't people be different/weird?

Never thought you could take the fun out of a Beefheart song, but I'll be damned if I didn't hate this. WHY DO YOU MAKE IT SO HARD TO LIKE YOU DEVENDRA

Beautiful and real!

There are lot's of weird people that are naturally that way, but also happen to be talented and original. Don Van Vliet (the guy that wrote this song) is weird but also brilliant. The funny thing is Devendra Banhardt isn't that weird, he's actually just really derivative. Maybe if he had something interesting to say, or an interesting and original way to say it I could forgive his annoying tendency to choose obscure songs to cover. He just associates himself with weird things.

Does anyone know what the story to this song is, or why it was written? Or even if it has a meaning? I'm curious as to whether this has a deeper meaning than just the 7 words he magically uses throughout the song.

@HoorayTV21 I listen to Donovan as well and that makes your comment "just awful!". If you've heard just one song don't go all emo on the singer.Devendra actualy has some very optimistic songs :)

There is not a chance in hell this is a cover of Beefheart. The two songs sound nothing like one another. They don't even share the same lyrics.

this is not his song its a cover of Captain Beefhearts song of the same name on the 1967 album Safe as Milk.
theres a youtube video of him somewhere recommending the same album.
