  • This is probably a dumb question.

But how do you know where to move and point to when the screen is located "behind" you?

I tend to agree with your main points, that's why I've spread across the two metals. However, silver is outperforming gold this year. The ratios are also not in line with the historic values, so I do expect to see further gains in the future.

  • @ShillBasher - I agree with you on silver, ShillBasher. I just happened to be more invested in gold. I believe I went towards gold because so much buying power can be stored more compactly. When it's time for me to leave in a hurry, I don't need a wheel barrow to cart a bunch of silver around :). But I do have silver and agree with you.

  • @ShillBasher

Two reasons why silver isnt performing as well as gold:

    1) Silver is more of an industrial metal, being used far more in the manufacture of consumer goods than gold, This makes it look far inferior as a safehaven investment. If manufacturing drops during a downturn the demand for silver may also drop and the price follow, at least for the short term.

    2) Silver is a far smaller market which allows its price to be far more volitile and easily manipulated by the big players.

  • Great oration ain't going to pull your country out of the debt spiral you are in. The Chinese are lowing their exposure to US assettes slowly but surely and increasing their holdings of the yellow metal. I hope Obama can talk up another dip in Gold and Silver, as now J.P.Morgan has closed it's prop trading division the dips have all but vanished and the buying opportunities I'm looking for are few and far between.

  • hello ira,

whats your setting for bollinger bands?

  • @magichandpuppet

Why do you say gold is 'of course' your favourite?. Did you know that Silver actualy has potentialy better fundamentals (FunDaMetals) than gold. It's a small market and the ratios are historicaly out of whack, so when it takes off, like it has been doing, it goes banannas.

  • Ira, thank you for all you do! I enjoy seeing your analysis on all of these commodities. Gold is, of course, my favorite :)
