COOKIE calling it 'a day' at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.

COOKIE is a Major Mitchells Cockatoo who was probably born wild in Australia. He is the oldest resident at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago and has been there since the Zoo opened in 1934. The Zoo celebrated his 75th Birthday this year, even tho COOKIE is probably OLDER than that as he came to the Zoo as an adult.

Sept 2009: COOKIE WILL NO LONGER BE ON PUBLIC DISPLAY AT THE ZOO
"...because he was constantly agitated like a curmudgeonly old man who wants those darned kids off his lawn.
Earlier this year, staff noticed that when Cookie was off exhibit, his appetite improved and he appeared more at ease.
Cookie will spend all his time in a keeper's office surrounded by people he knows and likes."

He has to be lonely and all the kids screaming at him and knocking on the glass is probably not what he needs in his old age. Maybe that's why he is only 'on display' on weekends now...

You're welcome! I can't believe there aren't more videos of Cookie on YouTube -- love the one in which he is getting "jiggy!" :>) We seem to usually just catch him napping...
