A repair that comes up from time to time is installing / replacing the kitchen sink. In this episode watch how to install a double bowl kitchen sink from scratch on a fresh countertop. Landlord Lessons: - When lining up your sink, make sure your countertop is set EXACTLY where it should be and make sure the sink is centered on top of your sink base. Mark and measure! - When cutting your countertop, be careful to trace and cut out the sink TOO tight to fit in your initial sink hole. You can always shave more countertop off, but can't easily add it back on!

  • @MrFunkygroover I'll be cutting new countertops for sinks VERY soon in the apartments being built from warehouse space! I'll be giving you a shout out on that video! Thanks again!

  • what is the minimum distance beteeen the edge of the worktop and the edge of the sink. you had yours at 1/4 of inch

  • @SuperPIRANHA1 Hey, your sink template will give you the recommended spacing, I would use the manufacturer's recommendations!

  • That's a GREAT tip, I'm going to mention that (and give you credit) in the next "In the Trenches" video! Thank you!!

  • @MrFunkygroover : Same, i always seal the cut out prior to fitting sink and am amazed how many kitchens i remove have not been sealed around the sink cutout.

I usually bin the template, mask and mark around new sink then deduct 10/12mm and then cut out using fine cut jigsaw blades non orbitable setting...quick and easy and works everytim, the most satisfying job is routing the butt and scribe joints.

  • @MrFunkygroover That really sucks about the blades because they're a great tool to have. I guess we are pretty lucky here in Canada :)

  • @DylanTownesDrake. hi dylan fair point about reverse cut jigsaw blades but in england and ireland they are hard to come by in hardware stores, was just letting people know how to do it without them. but pretty sure you could get them easily in canada and usa, you dont know how lucky you are!!!! glad you liked the other tip though.

  • @MrFunkygroover They make reverse cut jigsaw blades to prevent chip outs from happening, and it looks like that's what they were using or just a brand new fine tooth blade. The other tip is great and I'm gonna use that pretty quick. Thanks

  • just a tip for you, you should always flip over the worktop when cutting out for sink as it stop the front face chipping. also i always smother pva glue or waterproof silcon around the whole inside face of the cut out before fixing in sink it stops water getting through and blistering of the worktop from water that might seep through whilst in use normally adds a few years on to your countertop. i hope that is helpful.
