We share our humanity ... do we not?

the destruction of al-andalus is due to the fact that the Muslims didnt really follow the Quranic Law and the Prophets Hadith. 3:137 Many were the Ways of Life that have passed away before you: travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who rejected Truth.the Muslims in al-Andalus simply didnt do their work(dawah).

To all you Eurocrats, every point you've made so far has already been answered in this documentary. Bettany Hughes is a historian from Oxford for God sake! I have never come across such a comprehensive, thorough and well backed up account on Moorish history before.

yes we have nothing in common! Andelus is ours and we must take it back! Islam 4 ever.

Wow Its amazing how some way, some how no matter what, You Euroctrats try to find a way to take credit for EVERYTHING! GIVE UP! That "Empire" Was in rubbels, the people were still living in caves "dark ages" before the Moor's brought along their scholarship, if you paid full attention you would be familiar with the Egyptean and Persian origin of the geometrics, art and scholarship used in the architecture of the buildings. Rome was not out of the dark until the Council of Nicea permitted...

I do not agree with the thesis of the documentary that religion was not important to the christians of Spain. Religion may not be important to a secular europe of today, but then, as now in the rest of the non-secular christian and catholic (poor) part of the rest of the world, RELIGION IS IMPORTANT and valued.

And don't forget that the Iberian Peninsula was strongly romanized. In fact, Hispania was one of the most important provinces of the Roman Empire. The birthplace of Trajan, Hadrian and Seneca, among others.
So, what happened is that the Muslim invaders were influenced by the natives' strong Roman traditions.
The Alhambra looks like a Roman villa... without statues (excepting those HERETICAL lions).

Yes, there was a "flourishing of arts", but not THANKS TO Islam but IN SPITE OF Islam.
For instance, it is clear that it was an outstanding Islamic geometric art. But that is THE CONSECUENCE OF A PROHIBITION. Quran forbids illustration of people, so the artists had only that way to express their creativity.
On the contrary, the West had an authentic flourishing of Arts: RENAISSANCE. Due to an artistic freedom unknown in Islamic countries.
The Spain today is what it is due to the Muslims that were there. It has been built upon since the muslims were exhiled/killed. Its nothing to be ashamed of, apart from the barbarrick behaviour of the Christians who felt threatened from it's existance. History should not be effected by feelings, it should be accepted in its entirety. So dear fellow europeans, please stop denying the truth, The moors brought europe into light and we all owe alot to them.
