The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown dependency, located in the Irish Sea at the geographical center of the British Isles.
The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who holds the title of Lord of Mann. The Crown is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. The island is not part of the United Kingdom, but external relations, defence, and ultimate good-governance of the Isle of Man are the responsibility of the government of the UK.

The Isle of Man is not a part of the European Union, but has a limited relationship relating to the free movement of goods.

  • @Koloszrodosthe I think you'll find that the IOM is NOT part of the UK, nor is it part of the EU. It is, however, self-governing, crown dependency and a tax-free haven.

  • @TheTwollocks i think you are just slightly annoyed that the island in a tax haven so attracts large powerful business. Are government isnt in debt like everyone else and that we have a better credit rating than you do!

  • Nice anthem!

THE FLOWER OF FREE THE HEATHER,HEATHER,

    THE BRITONS,THE SCOTS,THE IRISH TOGETHER,

THE MANX AND WELSH AND CORNISH FOREVER,

SIX NATIONS ARE WE ALL CELTIC AND FREE!

  • proud to be manx

  • @AtharAqua I nver knew that was even a language :( but I want to visit it :D

  • @Girrovv The number of people speaking Manx Gaelic is increasing steadily. We have an all-Manx school that teaches all subjects in Manx. No English is spoken at all during school hours.

There are also many free courses available for people who wish to learn the language. There are, however, more people singing in Manx than are speaking in. (I'm a singer, but not a speaker). Hopefully, in time, Manx will become widespread again :)

  • I really like your little isle and Manx sounds very beautiful.

Too sad that only a little of you can speak this "new old language", but who nows what will happen in the future...

    Best wishes from Germany

  • @bacabu30 right you dont live on the isle of man... so why are you taking such an interest

  • @TheTwollocks As I said, I've no idea what you're ranting on about. Who mentioned about self-determination (I think that's the word you're looking for)? I think you've been having a conversation with yourself, mate. I only stated the FACT initially that the IOM is NOT part of the UK and never has been. If that FACT somehow upsets you, that's your own business, but don't take it out on others! Maybe go see a therapist for your anger issues. You're the one who has disrespected the Isle of Man.
