Guangzhou is going to host 2010 Asian Games.

Guangzhou city is the capital city of Guangdong province. It is the first city opening door to outside world on 1978 in China. Located very near to Hong Kong, Guangzhou people share the same language Cantonese with Hong Kong people and the same culture.This city is one of the most wealthy city in China with 10,000 USDs GDP per capita in the year of 2006.

Guangdong province's GDP(GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT) in 2007 is 390,000,000,000 USDs, ALREADY exceeding Singapore, Hong Kong and Chinese Taiwan(323,410,000,000 USDs) and is ONLY half of South Korea's GDP(826,000,000,000 USDs).Guangdong province is also the NO.1 economy powerhouse in China followed by Shandong, Zhejiang and Shanghai. If compared Guangdong Province's GDP with 200 countries in the world, Guangdong ranks 21.

Guangzhou is also famous for its wonderful variety of food especially sea food.

I was born in Texas, to parents who came from Guangzhou. As a child, I went to China once in a while to visit family, and I hated it. There was way too much smog, a lot of people who spit and smoked. But still, it's a great place overall, if you head to big cities like Hong Kong or Guangzhou. I still remember it, and would love to go back and visit again! Too bad I can't speak Chinese....:(

I am sick of people saying bad things about my hometown, such as spit. Ok, smog is the truth for some bad season and I believe that you have came at a bad season. Ok, there are more smoking people here than Europe and USA, but not everyone. On the other hand, when I was in New York, I saw people spiting out of his suv. That is truth. And if you have travelled to New York before, you will know there is smog as well in Big Apple. And to be frank, it is too dirty in New York and building is so old.

@andrew3656 yes, Vietnamese language is similar to Cantonese. That's because in fact 70% pronunciation of Vietnamese come from Mandarin and Cantonese. What is the so-called Vietnamese Language. They dont even have one. They just try to claim they have one after all :)
