@basterd091 They cut the rope for two reasons, they will carry the cut piece (rope is essential for soldiers on patrol) and they want to be free to begin moving immediately. Notice in the background a helo is circling. That is historically accurate. The sound of a hovering helo is distinctive, so a second one circles to cover the sound.

okay .. showing my ignorance here.. but what did they cut off themselves once on the deck, and would those ropes have been ditched from the helo or recovered?

Indeed......when I was back in the green machine I recall being told on several occassions that it was 6RAR recon Pl that did this scene. great movie

Dig SAS, one of my mates from the regt was ex recon 6 Bn. I recall him saying it was his Pl that did the rapelling?
