  • @Synthiotics I was there in November. We did see a lot of old men kneeling, begging for money. Overall, our visit was fantastic but we should not have picked the Toussaint weekend as a few museums were closed. We were a little surprised that French and English were often not sufficient, but again, we loved the city and I hope to go there again. Sorry if my comment seemed negative -- of course, it was very subjective! I loved the Horta Café, of course!

  • @CuteCatFaith "it is very cold, sophisticated, you see a lot of suffering here." Maybe you came when it was winter? And what suffering? There are poor areas and nice areas here, same as everywhere else, but what you will not see is beggars everywhere, unlike in many French cities - especially Paris.

"Many do not speak English or French here"

Most Flemish people speak English just fine, it's practically an unofficial language in Flanders. Many also speak French, although less.

  • This is not a city everyone will love. I do love it but it is just not for everyone. Hard to explain. It is very cold, sophisticated, you see a lot of suffering here. This being said, it is fascinating and I had no problems here during a visit. The sex area is very shocking but very well organized. Many do not speak English or French here, but I still loved my visit, so I recommend, depending on the weather.
