I loved Jhumpa Lahiri's book and Mira Nair's interpretation of it on the big screen is phenomonal...she makes me proud of being Bengali. :)

This is slightly old-fashioned. I dont know if prospective brides in Bengali families were made to recite poems. Highly unlikely. Used to happen earlier, may be in the 40s or 50s.
