One thing about DYNASTY was they wouldnt accomidate the actors who played the carrington children so they would fire them or write them out and each of them had a new actor step into the role.. That hurt the series because the audience begins to feel that they connect with the actor who originated the role only to see a new actor take over... none of the other night time soaps did that and they all lasted longer on the air than dynasty

DALLAS used real furs and jewels way before dynasty but dallas was more real which is why it lasted for 13 seasons and had three dallas movies and a successful reunion show in 2004.. Dynasty only usurped Dallas during the 84-85 season but only by a .02 % point. even dynasty's 1985 cliffhanger dallas beat out dynasty with bobby ewing dying.. dynasty was a good show but even tv can give its audience too much excess and glitz,,,

@hammersmithdays PSM did do a few movies afterwards (smaller ones) and a feature (I think). But she was also having health problems at the time and it was getting increasingly uncomfortable for her. She also said in an interview that you have to be really creative in order to play the same character for years, and she felt that she went as long as she could personally. Anyway, just passing on what I've gathered :)
