@radtwelve his advices are 'old advices' but for most people, they need to be enlightened. But, perhaps, Tony is preaching to the choir. We who follow him know this as just common sense. But, I think he intends to spread the gospel!

@kray404 Ha! If you lived in NYC you would eat street food! It is sometimes better than the food in restaurants. People have the misconception that 'street food' is not safe. How do you know what is in your food in restaurants? Even the TOP restaurants?
-
@rabbitboi - yes, I make it a point to get to know them and walk to the neighborhoods where people actually live. how will you find places if you eat in your hotel, eat where all the other tourists eat and just follow the guidebooks! but, not everyone is as adventurous - that's why we love tony! he has that spirit
-
@Katchka1 the locals usually know which places are the best anyways!

You would never understand all the cultural nuances unless you go to the culture itself. Sometimes though we expect foreigners to be foreigners

I was in Madrid on business and my colleagues wanted to eat at Subway. I was all "WTF?!!!" I bent over and went with them because it was our first night in Spain and I didn't want to eat by myself, but I made sure that was the last American fast food we ate in Spain.

I agree. Eat like the locals, go where the locals go!!

"People worry about street food when we travel, but your street food vendor is usually in the business of feeding his neighbours. Few business survive by poisoning their neighbours"

BobbyPuun, You're asking people who feel that how they dress is a form of worship to their god to change that just so YOU can feel comfortable? Moreover I'd wear at least a hijab in a Muslim country b/c I'd want to see how it feels, and b/c I don't want too much negative attention to myself in a foreign country.
