In the case of the Z1 ad: It was the 80s.
The ALTTP one: How is that bad? Seriously?

The reason being was that that was THEIR expensive TV set the thing connected to, and as such it wasn't something wise to trust a potentially clumsy kid with (not to mention it would have been dangerous since TVs are heavy).. The kid could get hurt and/or the TV broken.
