Very nice. I love record players. They're a mechanical marvel. They have character.

Sounds a tad bit fast.

@dvlaries That's good to know. To think Radio Shack used to sell VM adapters for $1.29! VM seemed to lag behind the rest in dumbing down their changers; they were the last to replace their drop sensor with a size switch. I always though they should have used a ganged speed-size selector to support 7" records, but kept the drop feeler to intermix 10" and 12" records. Of course that's a moot point, BSR was pummeling them by that time.

@lrd9999 What I specifically didn't like with the supplied GE adaptor (and the same is true with flat BSR ones) was that they couldn't hold and drop the records withOUT the use of the balance arm, thus denying you the option of having the top disc in the stack repeat play till you shut the machine off. VM 45 adaptors, even after they also were made flat, continued to permit that, and their 2 & 3/4 inch height models will operate on these GE players.

@dvlaries I always admired the simplicity of those one-piece adapters; I cut one out of wood for a BSR I just resuscitated. The sharpness of the bottom edge of the upper-section that sticks forward is critical to avoiding the double-drop problem. If it's built up with epoxy so that it curves out a bit, blocking all but the last record, the problem should go away; GE's mistake was making that section too straight, but their over-arms had it all over the L shaped ones on Garrards and BSRs.

These were reliable players all the way from the mono Swingmates through Wildcat, Mustang and Trimline models. If they had a weak point, it was that single piece, molded plastic 45 adaptor with no mechanics of its own, notorious for dropping more than one 45 in a cycle. The thing to do was find a VM spindle of the same centerpost height, but now you couldn't lower that squared-off balance arm, but you didn't need it either. The GE adaptor was a lemon from the first day on the drawing board.

Nice player :)
I love The Motels, too. Great disc to play. Thanks for posting it.

Check out my 45 of Martha Davis's only US solo hit, "Don't Tell Me The Time."
That's a beautiful set, and I love my General Electric stereos. I like the Motels, they sound great on it.
