Although pressed for time and material, due to marathon chess tournaments, Ege Bamyasi proved to be, in my opinion, Can's masterpiece. I wish I was allowing myself to put multiple records up by artists; otherwise 'Tago Mago' would without a doubt find itself a spot on this list as well. Highly influential, ironically, along with kraftwerk, these two krautrock bands more or less helped form the early stages of hip-hop - serving as blueprints to hip-hop pioneers like Afrika Bambaataa.

  • Experimental, yes, but let's not compare them to Kraftwerk (way more influential).

  • kraftwerk is extremely influential, there is no denying this ..but if you dig you'll find how influential CAN is ..it's hard to say one over the other and either way it doesn't really matter?

  • @faceinembryo I think you WANT CAN to be as influential as Kraftwerk, but in reality they don't even come close, sorry. CAN sound like other Jazz-influenced bands out there, it was all the rage in the sixties and seventies. Kraftwerk sounded like nothing else when they came out, some of the most original music ever made.

  • @blacknganga ha ha ..as influential as kraftwerk? maybe not, but just another jazz influenced band? come on ..this is a dumb argument as you're obviously biased

  • @faceinembryo

Can doesn't sound like anything else. They don't sound like anything before or after. No one has been influenced. I wish they had been.

  • @mathforphysics that's false. i couldn't begin to count the amount of songs i've heard sampling can. alot of more famous artisits too ..radiohead, kanye west etc

  • The grooviest song ever made.

    It has an incredible drive.

  • @Rockhurst4 Better, huh? Never really had a way with words, did you!?

  • i love this...

  • Good discussions going on - but, IMO, Can was way more into traditional 'funk' concepts than Kraftwerk and Neu. 'Funk', like prog, has always had been a barrier to some people. Vitamin C is a great example of the drum/bass dictation they followed. Damn fine stuff.

  • Kraftwerk were more mainstream, more for boppers. They were early but not all that creative. They basically put krautrock on the world map, whereas Neu, Can, Faust and the like were the creative bands. Purists will always prefer the original sound of the creative bands.

  • one of the best songs in the universe

  • @faceinembryo CAN ARE a great band.
