I set out in search of the elusive Skinwalker, known as Yee naaldlooshii by the Navajo, in New Mexico with a Native American Indian guide named Angel. We traveled through the reservations and forests in hopes of catching a glimpse of the legend itself. By the end of the day we arrived in a canyon were we took a glimpse of the last truly wild and untamed land of America.

In some Native American legends, a skin-walker is a person with the supernatural ability to turn into any animal he or she desires. Similar lore can be found in cultures throughout the world and is often referred to as shapeshifting by anthropologists.

Often, Navajos will tell of their encounter with a skinwalker, though there is a lot of hesitancy to reveal the story to non-Navajos, or (understandably) to talk of such frightening things at night. Sometimes the skinwalker will try to break into the house and attack the people inside, and will often bang on the walls of the house, knock on the windows, and climb onto the roofs. Sometimes, a strange, animal-like figure is seen standing outside the window, peering in. Other times, a skinwalker may attack a vehicle and cause a car accident. The skinwalkers are described as being fast, agile, and impossible to catch. Though some attempts have been made to shoot or kill one, they are not usually successful. Sometimes a skinwalker will be tracked down, only to lead to the house of someone known to the tracker.

  • @zapproowsdower I agree. I'm Native American, Navajo (Dine') at that and I don't see any wrong doings in this video. It was merely a group of guys entertaining themselves and willing to share their adventures with the rest of the world. That's the only downside to public postings like this, but then again we are each entitled to freedom of speech. Unfortunately we have to endure it at times whether we like it or not.

  • @djamesromero23 I was thinking the samething!

  • yee naaldlooshii!!!!!!

  • A skinwalker is a servant to a life of wickedness and pursues those who are of interest to them. And some of those people have something that they want such as wealth. A good family. Ect. But a skinwalker will most likely work with another to get what they want. You can say what you want cause people have their views on this matter but i was raised in the mountains on the rez around them and its not easy when they take thongs from you and put curses on you

  • That said, I will agree there is true value in tribal cultures. A dilemma for any one born to these cultures who has a brain. I'd probably play my flute and just overlook it all as being part of man's history upward. All races of people have come up with similar myths and beliefs and undoubtedly there was some survival benefit overall.

  • I've wandered remote areas on the Navajo as well as other reservations at night and have never been afraid for one second. I am born to the outdoors and know it's ways.

There is no skinwalker, and Coyote is just that. Same for Raven, etc. Many of the comments here are exactly why there is so much general anti-intellectualism in the USA/World. Your brains are full of false things, lies, and the absence of rational thought. Same for Christians and all the rest incl. Muslims, etc. etc.
