It was developed with Subaru and has a 2.0-liter normally aspirated Subaru flat-4 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. With the demise of the MR-2, Celica and Supra, one aim is for the FT-86 to put some fun and funk back into Toyota's road-car range. Even so, some see the use of Subaru's 1,994cc engine as a strange choice, since it's not especially sporty in non-turbo trim. But Toyota engineers really appreciate its low center of gravity, and that's the key here. One insider who has driven the car says it handles brilliantly. The stock engine also keeps the price down, with $25,000 or under the target here. At this stage, the FT-86 is a running prototype, with sharp 2+2 styling and a 164-inch overall length. Width is 63 inches, and height is a low 50 inches.

This is the Toyobaru that has been long talked about.... As you can see, little styling from the LF-A, as well as the FT-HS..
So what do you think??? Possible Next Scion tC??? Suppose to sold in Japan as a Toyota only.. Outside Japan as Subaru..... So does Scion get one to keep the Toyota sales in the States? Possibly the revival of the Toyota Levin/Trueno.

guess what everybody. i just found out that toyota/lexus is making an FT-86F!!(just like the lexus is300F) and it has a 300HP SINGLE TURBO!!!!! with 2 big air ducts on the sides of the bumper, a somewhat small rear wing/spoiler and 2 small air vents on the hood!!!! its in this japanese car magazine i bought yesterday!!!

AWD is more complicated than RWD... and ur saying that the RWD would complicate things with the subaru technicians?! haha... such bs. anyways i really hope this car blows the STi out of the water... I own an 05 WRX its time subaru does something spectacular.

@divine101 Dude I called bs too, but it's some crap about how they planned to fit the engine in the rwd configuration. That since the techs aren't accustomed to front mid mount (engine sitting behind the front wheels) with rwd, it would complicate things for them, and would rather have the conventional front mount (engine mounted at the front wheels) And I ain't saying that, I'm repeating what's been said from Motor Trend I believe it was.

its revealed at cars sales news, they will use subaru boxer engine 4 cylnder turbo it will make 250 KW, Toyota made it to compete with the nissan 370z

im really pissed off with this car.it suppose to b the succesor of the lengendary toyota 86 and first subaru(i dont have anything bout them but just look the new impreza..horrible and a poor design..olds imprezas are great cars but new 1s are just weak..)have to desing the motor? c'mon where're the engenieers that develop the 2jz gte, the 4ag 20v and 3sgte? and 35k for a cheap rwd sport car? how much the ae86 cost back in the day? the car is far from where a cheap fun car were..such a shame..
