@vnlk65n to further this, brushed stainless steel vs. smooth is done to reduce finger print smudges.

@sniper1334 Polished metal is not more rust resistant than matte. I don't know where you would get that idea.
If you have a carbon steel model and brush off the blueing to bare metal, you WILL reduce the life of your gun, guaranteed.
If you have a stainless steel model it doesn't really matter what sort of finish it has- either way brushing the steel down does absolutely nothing for it. Stainless is corrosion resistant because of the specific alloys used in the steel.

@2204Alpha Really?... I'm 100% positive Ruger does not provide a written warranty in there owners manuals. So it is impossible therefore that it says anything about it "voiding" a warranty for altering the finish. The Service and Parts Policy in MY manual, also says nothing about voiding any kind of warranty for altering the finish. It does say to ship the weapon to the Product Service Department, WHICH I TALKED TOO AND THEY SAID A CORRECTLY DONE POLISH JOB WOULD NOT VOID ANYTHING. JACKASS!!!

@sniper1334 dude you can talk to whoever you want, but the legal standard is what is printed in the manual. If you do what you are suggesting Rugar can choose to void the warranty if they want. I am right, you are wrong. I dont care how awesome you think it is, I am referring ONLY to the legality of a warranty contract.

@2204Alpha Of course that's what it's going to say in the owners manual. That's to keep idiots from destroying a nice firearm. However, if you have the handgun polished professionally or are skilled enough to do a polish job yourself and do it correctly. It will not void the warranty. I have talked to a Ruger technician who inspects firearms for repairs and confirmed this.

@sniper1334 please read your owners manual. Altering the finish voids the warranty. I purchased a new ruger in 2007 and this is clearly in the manual.

@EricandJr yeah and it will deteriorate the metal, void the warranty, and make your pistol look like something a negro would carry
@2204Alpha Huh? That's actually one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Try not giving advice on something you know nothing about. Polishing actually adds protection to the metal, since polished metal is more rust resistant than a factory matte. It will not void your warranty if done correctly (you can call Ruger yourself and confirm), and the negro comment is just ignorant and racist. Plenty of white people have polished handguns. BTW I recommend Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish.
