These wonderous creatures were once abundant in certain parts of West Texas. They were quietly hunted to extinction.

At least in the oxygen poor atmosphere we have now. Go back a couple of hundred million years ago when the oxygen density was much greater than it is now and it's entirely possible you would have seen bugs that large. Then again you would have been poisoned by the air long before then but still.

@Xen1aserman actually your wrong partially, insects used to grow huge in prehistoric times. An exoskeleton can support a large amount of weight depending on the thickness of the exoskeleton. The problem is for insects is that they do not have lungs as we do. They absorb oxygen threw several gill like appendages. we cant see them because they are small. When the earths oxygen was much higher long ago dragonflies could grow up to 3 feet long! And 5 foot long scorpions roamed the earth!Google it!
