The reasons for not wishing to be married expressed by Miss Conick at 3:16 is exactly why women have been made entirely dependent upon the financial support of men through the ages.How many women,once exposed to the realities of childbirth,childrearing,boredo­m and drudgery would chose it for life,if they had full control of their own destinies and fortunes?

@druniver You are entirely correct about all this!Women have had to be ruthless because of social rules to snare the best man.I'd imagine there was alot of unreported and unrepentant filandering,especially at this social level.The wealthy have greater privilege.Modern females are showing a lack of interest in the joys of childbearing and marriage in droves,when they enjoy financial freedom,otherwise they play the game.(I'm a great fan of the "Dark" and Middle Ages,so am not keen on this era.)

@teufelstaub Experiments have have shown clearly, that, as soon as economy declines, women tend to select partners more in financial terms. So, could it actually be, that the mating-process in respect of (in)dependance is way around? And that it is not man, but woman herself, who decides the amount of dependancy, in relation to the way she is projecting / predicting her future ahead.

I was told that the women just SAT on some kinda chair during thier "visit" ,guess its true,.what did the poor do during that "visit"???????? i mean,'casue the women had to "work"cook,clean,(hudge)ect. Even though its troubling times,way worse back then!!:/

Thank you SO much for sharing this brilliant show with us! I love the perspective from our spoiled generation....but, back then, the people did not know any different. They revelled in the luxuries they had. The perspective from our pampered technologic world....is going to be negative. I wish I could participate in an experience like this...but, would not want to live there. Peace! :0)
