@kingnikolaj My issue from the get go was a distate in the modern tradition- where the stores start Christmas sales in july people in the US have all their parties in November and then see it as over on thhe 27th- I would rather spend 12 days smashed with the end being epephany

That had nothing to do with the song itself! besides, the "silent night" was actually about the original first Christmas, not something in the middle of the Middle Ages. Plus the song was written in 1816 by a priest, asking his friend to write the tune. It is one of the few carols that has been translated into so many languages, everyone can sing it!
