Arriving at the Old Harbour of the Greek island Santorini, your options to ascend the Caldera Cliffs up to the town of Fira are to take a cable car, climb 600 stone steps on foot, or pay 4 Euro to ride a donkey to the top. The donkeys lead themselves to the top, and the trip offers one of the most picturesque views in the world, especially at sunset.
The donkey owners give you the option to ride a donkey back down, but not many people choose to do so. Thus, many of the donkeys are turned loose to run back down the cliff's stone path on their own, leaving those traveling upwards to get out of the way at their own peril.
