Longfellow, the friendly American Red Cross youth aquatic programs spokes-whale, is always a hit with the kids. Wilber, as he is known to his Crew-911 friends, makes frequent guest appearances in the Houston, Texas area. Here he is visiting Earth Day 2005 in The Woodlands. The music is provided by The Woodlands High School Jazz Ensemble. While Longfellow can be seen representing many ARC Chapters across the country, we are pretty sure he only dances in Houston.

  • Aw all the kids either want to give you a hug or dance with you!

  • Wilber meets lots of new friends every place he goes... both young and old. He is the official spokes-whale for The American Red Cross aquatic programs and he is a very friendly and lovable character.

  • My twin brother and I recently helped out with being Wilbur. It was a LOT of fun. We switched out every half hour or so. I definitely have to give this guy props because it gets really hot really fast. And he is doing this outside. We were inside and it was already bad. Anyway, there is a video posted of my brother dancing to some scottish music. It's hilarious. Check it out.

I believe its titled "Wilbur gets his groove on".

  • The Wilber costume does indeed get very hot! We do have fans in our two Wilbers but that doesn't help much here in Houston. Great to hear from another Wilber fan. Playing Wilber is a whale of a good time though!

  • Wilber has lots of friends in The Woodlands/Conroe Texas area that assist him with his hectic schedule of personal appearances. Members of Wilber's inner circle are mainly Venturers from BSA Crew-911 along with our many green shirted friends from other area crews. Check out Crew-911. Playing Wilber is only a very small part of what we do!

  • loll he can't blow his whistle

  • Actually, Wilber is a very resourceful whale.. While the "big" whistle does not function, that certainly does not prevent Wilber from blowing a "real" whistle from inside the costume... The results, according to teenagers that have tried it, confirm it is quite ear-splitting for the occupant... though a cool effect for the kids watching.
