This past week, my parents and I went to a week-long camp of country dance, music and culture--the Christmas Country Dance School at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. Usually held from the day after Christmas up until New Year's Day, this event is a real learning experience for anybody who's arts-crazy.
One highlight of the camp is the "Morningsong" period, a showcase of past AND present attendees strutting their stuff in front of all the others. In this one session, our esteemed MC Patty Tarter introduces two acts: Nathan Wilson (from nearby Lexington) and a group of kids plucking a medley of children's song on the violin, culminating into a funky rap version of the Itsy Bitsy Spider; and Sarah Jo and Olivia Jacobs (with their dad Dennis on guitar, also from around Berea) performing a duet about a cuckoo, based on a family vacation to Denmark.
Recorded on December 29, 2011 at the Kate Ireland Trustees Room (known to CCDS guests and staff as the "Parlor") in Berea College's Seabury Center, using my trusty Flip UltraHD camera.

If you're looking for a perfect alternative to your New Year's vacation, give this one a go. You won't be disappointed, I'm sure of it.
Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this. I was unable to make it this year, but have been to Berea College's CCDS 18 of the past twenty years.
