The John Locke Foundation and Lenoir-Rhyne University's Reese Institute for the Conservation of Natural Resources hosted A Forum on Climate Change: Opposing Views, Feb. 11. 2009, at the Hickory (N.C.) Metro Convention Center. Dr. William H. Schlesinger, president of the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and Dr. John R. In this clip, Christy continues his prepared remarks.

  • Other satellite data contradicts his claims that ice has been increasing. Chen, Wilson, and Tapley (2006) show increasing overall mass loss for Greenland, while Velicogna and Wahr (2006) show the same for Antarctica. That's the two largest ice fields, giving yearly melting in opposed hemispheres. A North Polar Cap that opens the Northwest passage every summer isn't counterbalancing Antarctica and Greenland. (Other articles of the same sort have appeared since this conference, too.)

  • When I reference that stuff I'm assuming you've seen all 8 segments of this debate EasyEs

  • They were discussing this debate at WattsUpWithThat, but it was mostly concerning the comments on the IPCC as consensus thing.

There's a couple of great charts linked to in the comments there where it shows who the IPCC scientists are, where they stand, that sort of thing.

If you read through the comments on the recent NIDC "catastrophic failure" on ice measurements at WUWT somebody contests the no sea level rise since 2006 graph in the vid.

  • I agree I am a geologist and I have always been skeptical.

John Christy seems like a very passionate scientist and humanitarian.

The other guy cares but just not enough to look at facts. I spent some time cross checking what was said here on real climate..they don't have much to say.

  • Big difference between this guy's approach to this debate and the previous guy.

The first guy was just claiming "everybody agrees, and here's the horrific things that will happen".

This Christy guy is evidence, evidence, evidence. Science, science, science. If this debate is about science Christy is winning so far. Easily! 4 parts left to go yet though.
