Here's part two (of about six parts) from the hour-long interview I did with Amanda Palmer last week aboard the good ship Frying Pan in NYC. In this segment she speaks unabashedly about how the music and aesthetic of The Legendary Pink Dots was "Like my religion when I was in high school" She speaks about joining a list-serv in the early days of the internet and how that community of six people in her hometown ( described as "a clique of very outsider folks, and not very many of them") led to her meeting the band, giving them her music and receiving what at the time she likens to "a blessing from a creative deity" which gave her the fortitude to pursue her art full-throttle. The story comes full-circle when she speaks of Dresden Dolls fans nowadays, who "myspace me", including one who she had sing on one of her dates. A highlight comes when she speaks of the messianic level of Legendary Pink Dots fandom when she was young: "It was one of those things where the band was culty enough where if I was in some random place, and I saw someone wearing a Legendary Pink Dots shirt, I was like 'Oh you're one of me; like, here are the keys to my car....I trust you. I trust you because you love this music.'" 'Nice when music can have that effect...Through the next installments she discusses playing a living statue in public; playing a dead person in photographs; suicide; her concept of the soul; the mix of dark and light in art and more than a few other topics...and every now and then the ship lurches on the Hudson River..

  • the dots are amazing. my life changed when i first heard "the tower" LP.

  • This woman is such an inspiration to me.

  • Ahh, thanks. Can't see it at this point, seeing as it has gotten such negative feedback. Maybe that's a good thing.

  • You're looking at the wrong comment, elbonzoseco88 . These are responses to an absolutely ridiculous comment by Mariucaorbist, not donie716's comment.

  • I think he was talking about bad grammar. And foot fetishism. Just a thought. :)

  • Why would being masculine make you unable to feel music? Why would what country a person is from make her unable to feel music? How do YOU appreciate this music? Seems to me that being able to feel music involves a lot of letting go, especially of internal prejudices and fears. Give it a try.

  • i remember when i was starting to know one of my best-best friends, girlfriend almost, told me that she was amanda palmer on halloween and i reached over the table and gave her a huge hug and that night we became friends slash lesbian lovers.
