48 Hours 'till "The Moment:" Trash Cans Are Full

Litter Free Inauguration is a grassroots DC movement to make sure the National Mall is litter free after Pres. Obama's Inauguration.

On Sunday, trash cans on the National Mall were overflowing. That means trash is going to end up on the ground. If everyone brings a bag with them on inauguration day, to take away their own trash, we can make sure this inauguration day is litter free.

We chose a small issue we cared about, namely the preservation of the National Mall and a degree of respect shown to it by out of towners. We assume you would want us to focus our energy on something like "world hunger," or "immunization" or "homelessness." Unfortunately, we mounted this campaign with no money and did what we could with a Flip Cam. But you have the luxury to hate because you choose to destroy rather than build, apparently. Please let us know how fulfilled that makes you feel.

A majority of us are from Washington, DC, so when you say something like "DC is trash," we really don't know what to make of it. We believe DC is a city with as much diversity and beauty as any of the world's most prominent locales. Please contact us, and we will personally join you through a tour of the real Washington, DC. If you still retain your initial thoughts, we understand, but we believe you haven't truly understood the history of our nation's capitol to draw such a conclusion.

We encourage you to watch our PSA. The point of this video is to alert people that trash cans will be overflowing and we should prepare by bringing our own bags to make sure people aren't motivated to leave their trash on the ground simply because there is no alternative. The city is doing its best to host all of us, so we should act as responsibly as possible in return.

Don't you get it? The campaign is over. During the campaign all the so called liberals were promised they were going to get some of the other guy's hard earned stuff. You know, "Share the wealth". Free stuff. You got their vote, now we all get their attitude. The only thing that has "changed" is there are a lot more lethargic folks milling about expecting the other guy to start acting "responsible" for them. Cleaning up their trash is the other guy's job. What a joke on us all.

The real causes for this problem are not being addressed here in lieu of fingerwaving, aspersions and blame being childishly expressed. On the other hand, one might wonder if 2 million biblethumping, rednecked crazies had shown for w's coronation, the mall would be strewn with dirty Pampers, Bible Tracts, whiskey bottles and Big Mac wrappers, far as the eye could see. But if you are a grass roots movement to ake sure it's trash free why did you not bring bags and start handing them out and picking up trash yourself? I go to mall events and when the trash cans are full I fold up and stuff in my purse or jacket. sorry no excuse for this except not caring, they didn't care.

I agree. How can the environmentalists carry in their trash but not carry it out with them. They don't need trash cans if they take out what they brought in. Glad to see others noted this since I spoke of it on the air.
