Wrapping up the Kinder Revolution Tour with Gov't Mule at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, on November 22, 2008, Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam, as he had throughout the tour, jammed once again with Warren Haynes and the rest of Gov't Mule - Matt Abts on drums, Danny Louis on keyboards, and Jorgen Carlsson on bass. On this particular night, we were blessed to witness this remarkable cover of "It Hurts Me Too" by Elmore James.

I know that Warren Haynes and the whole band were warm, gracious, kind, and welcoming to all of the boys of Back Door Slam during this whole tour, but, in particular, Warren put Davy Knowles in the spotlight, time and time again, and was happy to step out of it himself. HE is a GREAT guy!!! Of course, in my opinion, Davy deserves every bit of attention that he gets, but, Warren's support, enthusiasm, and generosity were MUCH appreciated and certainly not lost on me.

For those of you not familiar with Back Door Slam, they are a blues rock trio hailing from the tiny Isle of Man, which is located between England and Ireland. The band members are Davy Knowles, on lead guitar and vocals, Adam Jones on bass, and Ross Doyle on drums. I hope this video will inspire you to check them out further.

Get out to a show if you can. Be sure to add their debut album "Roll Away" to your music library. Buy their second album when it comes out (they'll be recording in early 2009). AND, by all means, if you do get to a show, try to say hello - they are THREE of the nicest young men I've ever met. Here's a link to their website:

Enjoy!!

Cheers!!!

  • I agree with everything the info says on Davy. I happened to be flipping channels and saw them on Jimmy Kimmel Live and thought they were incredible and a few months later they were on a small tour and came to Indiana University where they put on an amazing show but didn't have the crowd size they deserve. I stood right in front of Davy... it was amazing. After the show i got a chance to talk to him and he's extremely humble and a nice dude. I hope the best for him and his band mates.

  • go see Davy play live...

  • I met Warren back in December and he was so personal. He was jammin with steve morse, and we had snuck backstage to meet both of them. He gave us balcony seats and a backstage pass when we meet him. I was asking him about Steve and he said "Oh Lord you gotta meet him, he's such a sweetheart." lol
